The statement drew attention to the gap between the one percent of the mega-rich, whose income is steadily rising, and the rest of the world. Three years ago tens of thousands of people in 80 countries demonstrated against unjust income. The protests may have died down, but the facts show that social inequality is on the rise. Visit the project website at www.winklerinitiative.ca - German immigrants have long been an integral part of the social fabric of Manitoba. The most recent wave began in 1997, responding to the labour needs of businesses in the Winkler area. As part of a pilot program for the Province of Manitoba's fledgling Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) dubbed the "Winkler Initiative", 50 families from Germany immigrated to Southern Manitoba. Through word of mouth and the work of delegations that went to Germany to publicize the program, many more immigrants have since followed. For this project I interviewed five recent German immigrants as well as someone born in Canada who has helped the immigrants adjust to their new lives in Canada. The interviews focus on the large scale trends of this immigr...

Immigrants in Germany are failing to integrate into society. Such is the view of most locals, who say foreigners are taking advantage of the country's social benefits and refusing to follow state laws.
